HTL is pleased to announce its third pub transaction of 2025, following the successful sale of Newcastle icon, Finnegan’s Hotel.
The purchaser is veteran Newcastle publicans Cath Antaw and Stewart Smith; with the couple currently at the Great Northern in Teralba.
The asset was sold off market by HTL Directors Blake Edwards and Dan Dragicevich on behalf of valued long term HTL clients, the Hunter Family.
“The vendor and the buyer contacted us within a day of each other expressing their eagerness to buy and sell respectively. We immediately introduced the parties and after a very short negotiation, commercial terms were established that both parties were pleased with” commented HTL Property Director, Blake Edwards.
The prominent asset is a freehold going concern hotel with 15 GMEs and which includes an adjacent commercial property. The stunning art deco pub is prominently positioned on the intersection of the bustling King and Darby Streets; opposite Newcastle Civic Park and City Hall.
“We are genuinely thrilled that we are going to be the new owner of this great pub. We have thoroughly enjoyed dealing with the Hunter family and look forward to working with them towards settlement” commented successful Purchaser, Stewart Smith.
“The market surged at the back end of 2024, and consequently remains strong heading into 2025; hence we are anticipating positive incremental growth in both asset price and elevated transaction volumes comparative to recent years” added HTL Property National Director, Dan Dragicevich.
The sale of Finnegan’s Hotel brings the total number of large format hotel sales by HTL Property in the Newcastle region to 22 in the past 5 years; a geographical market share of greater than 80%.
HTL is negotiating several other deals nationally, and is hoping to make more positive market announcements regarding other transactions in the near future.
